Blog 2- Slavery and how it violated the rights of African slaves in Jamaica.
During the time of slavery, which generally refers to the period between the 16th and 19th centuries, millions of people were forcibly taken from their homes in Africa and brought to the Americas to be sold as slaves. Slavery was a brutal and dehumanizing system that stripped people of their freedom, dignity, and basic human rights.
Slaves during this time were treated as property rather than
human beings and were often subjected to physical and emotional abuse by their
owners. They were forced to work long hours in harsh conditions and were not
given any compensation for their labour. Slaves were also often separated from
their families, and many were never able to see their loved ones again.
Activity-
1. State two ways in which you believe slavery violated the rights of the Africans enslaved in Jamaica.
2. Explain the rights that we have today that the slaves did not. Add at least one associated responsibility of the 21st century Jamaican.
